Save Your Dog with Natural Flea Control

The best approach to flea control is to adopt natural ways. Start with natural and least toxic choices. Many people will suggest you stronger methods without knowing that they can have harmful effects on your dog’s health. Neither is this healthy for you. So check the ingredients carefully before buying a flea control product. The best way to fight fleas is to build up your dog’s resistance through healthy lifestyle and diet. The owner should also develop good sanitation and cleaning habits to keep fleas away from their dogs.

The nasty and dirty buggers can drive your dog crazy. Harsh soaps and sprays will do no good to your pet. They are not even as effective in fighting fleas as they demand to be. Here are some natural solutions that you can apply if you looking for some tips on flea control for dogs.

Essential Lavender Oil: This is a great thing to do away with pests. Wash your dog thoroughly first and towel dry the little member of your family. Now take lavender oil and apply a few drops to the neck and the base of the dog’s tail. This is going to work effectively.

Rosemary Flea Dip: Take water in a large container and boil the water for nearly 30 minutes. Now add two cups of rosemary and stain the mixture. Wait until the liquid cools. Make sure that it is not completely cold. The liquid should remain lukewarm. Pour this liquid over your pet and wait until he is soaked. Let your dog dry naturally. This is a great way to get rid of fleas especially during summer days.

Brewer’s Yeast: Brewer’s Yeast is another effective thing to adopt. You can add these tablets to the dog’s food. It is healthy and not harmful for your dog. This helps to make the dog’s skin less or not at all attractive to the fleas. Don’t give your dog Brewer’s Yeast without consulting a veterinarian. Only a veterinarian can tell you the proper dosage depending on the weight of your dog.

Lemon Spray Repellent: Boil water in a large bowl. Add lemon juice to the boiling water. Leave the mixture overnight. Spray the mixture all over your pet in the morning. Focus on areas around the dog’s head, behind the ears, around the tail as well as under the legs. Be careful not to spray the mixture around the eyes of your dog.

Apple Cider Vinegar: It is very effective in fighting fleas. Making your dog’s skin acidic is a good way of keeping fleas away and that’s precisely what apple cider vinegar do. Add one spoonful of apple cider vinegar to your dog’s water and it will make the dog’s skin acidic so that your dog’s skin doesn’t seem tasty to the fleas. If you think that it is not the dog’s cup of tea you can apply another method. You should dilute the liquid with water in that case. The proportion should be 50/50. Now put the solution in a spray bottle. You can use it as a repellent. This will also keep away fleas.

You can adopt any of the above written ways to remove fleas. Natural flea control for dogs are the best way to keep your pet healthy and at the same time saving it from fleas.

Finding the Perfect Dog Shampoo Can Be Hard – Here Are Some Great Tips

Finding the proper  best dog shampoo for your dog will help you out while you are washing your dog. Now if you have been down your pet stores aisle for shampoo and hair care products you will notice that the aisle has a multitude of products to use. You are probably like I was puzzled as could be about which one would help your dog out best. Here are some great tips that I have used in the past for picking out my shampoo for my dog.

The first thing that I always look for when looking at dog shampoo is what fur type the shampoo is made for. Now some dogs are curly, some are straight haired, and the various hair types do have different shampoo types that help them. I know that I have to get a different type of shampoo for my Yorkie-Poo than I do for my Lab.

After finding the shampoo that is for the hair type I am looking for then I determine which scent I like the most. Now some of the shampoos have no scent at all and if you have a dog that is allergic to certain scents then you might want to get a non-scented shampoo. However, I know that if you use some of the sweeter smelling shampoos your dog will smell good for about a week before needing another bath.

Now I do have a dog that has very sensitive skin to most shampoos. So if your dog is sensitive with his skin then you will need to find a shampoo that is meant for sensitive skin. Now that type of shampoo can be a bit more expensive, but is worth it for the comfort of your dog. Not only that you can also look into the hypo-allergenic shampoos they will typically help your dog out to with his sensitivity to certain types of shampoo. I know that I have used them on my dog before and helped prevent him from scratching constantly after his bath.

Picking out a good dog shampoo can be hard, but is not impossible. The first thing that you have to consider is what type of hair your dog has to determine the proper shampoo. Then you will want to find one that has a pleasing scent to you, obviously not one that will make you sneeze all the time. Then after you have found that you will want to see if you can find that scent in a hypo-allergenic shampoo or sensitive skin shampoo if your dog needs that type of shampoo. All things considered finding the proper shampoo for your dog will lead to a happier bath time for you and your dog.

The WoW Hunter Pet Guide Part 2

In your quest to find the best WoW Hunter pet you will want to avoid using Caster pets. Caster pet are bad because their stat growth is inferior. Instead of having a pets essential Strength and Stamina stats, Caster pets use the unnecessary High Spirit and Intellect stats. There are a couple of ways to identify a Caster pet. If they have any magical abilities or they have a “Mana Bar” prior to taming them, it is most likely a Caster pet.

Now that you have had a brief overview of the pets available to the WoW Hunter class, let us study the two standard and most popular types of pets, the tank pets or the DPS Pets. In case you want or need your pet to do various things, perhaps the strongest selection for you is to go for the well-rounded pets, which are more generalized in their abilities and functions. Bears and boars are by far the strongest choice for Tanking. As boars and bears are easier to feed, they appear to be mere common Hunter’s pets. For Tanking, if you are looking for a pet with great endurance, then choosing a turtle sounds like a good idea.

Cats are thought to be the best overall selection when selecting a Hunters pet for DPS or fighting ability. The reasons why cats make the most powerful and best WoW Hunter’s pet is because they can master several powers rather quickly, they are easier to feed and can damage enemies in various and innovative ways. In addition to cats, you could also pick out ravagers, owls, wind serpents and spiders for fighting abilities, although my own personal favorite killing machines are raptors. Raptors will rip the face right off your enemy, chew it up and spit it out. So, if you’re feeling especially gory, raptors are the way to go.pet

Now, talk briefly about a very important subject regarding your World of Warcraft Hunter’s pets. What I want to talk about is the maintenance of your pets. Let me start by saying “Pets require a lot of maintenance.” It’s your job to keep your pet happy and to keep your pet happy you are going to need to keep it well fed, continuously level them up and teach them new skills. Not only will this plan of attack keep your pet happy, but it will also benefit you as well with a well trained and more powerful pet.

WoW Hunter Pet Guide – WoW Hunter’s Pets 3 Levels Of Happiness

Unhappy – This is the lowest level of happiness that your pet can be. Unhappy is also how you begin your relationship with your pet after you tame them. While in this state of unhappiness, your pet will only do about 75% of its regular damage as well as lose loyalty. If left in this state for too long, your pet may run away. I know I would! You can tell if your pet is unhappy by the frowning red face next to your pets portrait.

Content – When your pet is content, it will dish out damage at 100% as well as gain loyalty at a slow rate. You can tell if your pet is content by the yellow smiley face next to your pets portrait.

Happy – A happy pet will gladly slaughter your enemy by inflicting 125% damage upon them. Your pet also gains loyalty very quickly while in this happy state. You can tell if your pet is happy by the green smiley face next to your pets portrait. Obviously, this is where we want to keep our pet.

WoW Hunter Pet Guide – WoW Hunter’s Pets 6 Levels Of Loyalty

Your pet’s Loyalty is a very important stat that affects a couple of other key areas dealing with your World of Warcraft pet. Here are the six levels of loyalty: Rebellious, Unruly, Submissive, Dependable, Faithful and Man’s Best Friend. There is no hidden secret here. The longer you keep your pets happy, the more loyal it will become towards your WoW Hunter class character.

The higher your pet is on the loyalty ladder, the less food will be needed to keep your pet happy. This next bit of information is important so please pay attention. Each and every new loyalty level increase made by your pets results in points being given to you so you can train your WoW Hunter pets. Conversely, it all works in reverse too. For instance, if you fail to keep your pet happy, it will lose loyalty. If you are constantly getting your pet killed or failing to feed it properly, there is a chance your pet may run away.

WoW Hunter Pet Guide – About Feeding Your WoW Hunter’s Pets

In order to increase your pets happiness, it will take more than just feeding it. You will need to feed it something it enjoys eating. To see what your pet prefers to eat, click on your profile to open it up then click on your pet tab and locate the green smiley icon with your mouse pointer. Now that you know what your WoW Hunter’s pet likes to eat, make sure you feed it enough to keep it happy and loyal. Each time your pet levels, his preferred diet will increase, and if you continue to feed him the amount he was eating prior to leveling up, he will gain happiness at a much slower rate, while feeding your pet the correct amount will allow it to acquire a great amount of happiness. So, make it a habit to click on your pet’s tab often.

WoW Hunter Pet Guide – How To Feed Your WoW Hunter’s Pets

1. Click on the “Feed Pet” Icon.
2. Click on the food you wish to feed your pet.
3. Allow your pet enough time to eat the food (about 10 seconds).

If you do not allow your pet ample time to finish its food prior to clicking on the “Feed Pet” icon again will only waste the food you previously fed it. All of the happiness left on the previous piece of food will be lost.

WoW Hunter Pet Guide – Training Your WoW Hunter’s Pets

In the World of Warcraft there are a couple of ways available for you to feed your pet. One way is by taking your pet over to a “Pet Trainer”. You can find the Pet Trainer over by your Hunter’s Class Trainer. The name Pet Trainer is somewhat of a misnomer. The Pet Trainer will teach you new skills and abilities on how to buff up your WoW Hunter’s pet with Health, Armor and/or Attack skills. These skills and abilities are put into your spell book, not on the pet. If you ever change pets, you won’t have to locate the Pet Trainer when your new pet is able to use the skills and abilities.

The other way for you to learn additional pet skills and abilities is by taming wild animals. For your Hunter to learn the pet abilities “Prowl” and “Claw”, he would have to tame a wild cat. By taming a wild bear, your Wow Hunter would be able to learn the pet ability “Claw”. Not every cat will know the Prowl skill and not every bear will know the Claw skill. There are different types of cats like there are different kinds of bears. Specific wild animals will know specific skills and abilities as well as higher levels of the different skills and abilities.

A good rule of thumb to follow here is: The tougher the wild animal, the tougher the skills or abilities you can learn from it. If you do tame a wild animal with a skill or ability that you want to learn, it will not come to you automatically. For you to learn the Prowl skill from a cat you just tamed, you will first need to ascertain if the cat has the skill and if it does, you must use the cat and his Prowl skill as often as possible in battle. When you have finally learned the skill or ability, a message will pop-up on the screen stating “You have learned the Prowl skill”. Now that you have learned the Prowl ability, you no longer need of that particular cat to use it. You can now use it on any tamed Hunter’s pet you want.

WoW Hunter Pet Guide – Training Your WoW Hunter’s Pet

Now that you have learned some skills and abilities from taming wild animals or the Pet Trainer it’s time to teach them to your favorite pet. If you don’t already have him out, take the pet you want to train out of your stable of pets. Now open up your spell book and click on the general tab where you will open up your Beast Training ability. There you will find out how many training points you have available along with all of the WoW Hunter pet abilities and skills you have learned. The training points are used for purchasing new abilities and skills. These are the training points you get as bonuses when your loyalty goes up. So, make sure your pets are very happy so your loyalty goes up and you get training points to use. Easy, isn’t it?

Next, you’ll want to choose a skill or ability you want your pet to learn along with the rank of that skill or ability. Remember, not all pets can learn every skill or ability. For instance, while all bears can learn Claw, boars can’t. Also, higher rank skills and abilities cost more points and if you teach your pet a skill or ability with a high rank, you won’t be able to teach it any of the lower ranks of the same skill or ability. Sometimes, a lower ranked skill will be all your Hunter’s pet needs to get the job done. That’s all there is to it. For many Hunter’s, the fun part is planning on what skills and abilities will be needed to make the ultimate super pet, then going out and taming the beasties who have the skills and abilities on my list, then putting my super-pet together and see how it performs.

People often ask me which World of Warcraft Hunter’s pet is my favorite. As for myself, I like the wolf for both its brilliant looks as well as its blood-curdling song. The assortment of attack speeds this awesome pet has will come in handy as well. With the many options available to you, it certainly makes your research a whole lot easier when you consider the two aspects of how easy is it to maintain and feed your pets. Here are some of the questions you should get answers to prior to beginning your career as a World of Warcraft Hunter. How expensive are the pets foods, how easy is it to procure your pets foods and what sort of food habits do these pets have or do they live on special diet regimens. For basic level huntsmen, spending too much cash on pet food fails to make any sense. The other things to think about are what sort of work you have to put in to increase the pet’s performance and to bring it even with your own level advancements. This can play a key role in your decision to choose a particular kind of pet.

The Best WoW Hunter Pet Guide Part 1

If you are in a impasse as to what kind of pet is strongest for your Hunter in the World of Warcraft game, you can get to a solution, if you are clear regarding the variety of pet you want. Essentially you have to select from amongst the three various types of World of Warcraft hunter pets. Hopefully, this WoW Hunter Pet Guide will help you to make up your mind as to the type of pet you will need for the style of game that you play.

WoW Hunter Pet Guide – Types of Pets

As you make your way through the game of World of Warcraft, there are pets that can be collected to aid your character throughout the game. Not surprisingly, WoW pets is actually one of the most popular aspects of the entire game to some players. There are three major types of World of Warcraft pets that are available to players: small pets, warlock pets and hunter pets, which is what we are discussing in this WoW Hunter Pet Guide.

World of Warcraft Small Pets – Players can acquire small pets either by purchasing them through a vendor, completing quests, through engineering, and as loot by killing specific creatures while playing the World of Warcraft. There are also some pets which are considered to be either Horde pets or Alliance pets. To purchase a small pet of an opposing faction, you will need to go through the neutral auction house which is located in Gadgetzan.

There are so many different kinds of small pets that you can acquire throughout the game of World of Warcraft, you can probably make an army out of them. Here is a small sample of some of the WoW small pets you can attain for your WoW Hunter: pet bombling, black tabby, mechanical chicken, blood parrot, mechanical yeti, guardian felhunter, ghost saber guardian, green wing macaw, hyacinth macaw, jumbling, prairie chicken, lifelike mechanical toad, mechanical squirrel, and the tree frog, and many, many more.

There are so many small pets available in the World of Warcraft that it would take me all day to list them all. In fact, there are many more small pets available for the WoW Hunter class than any other type of pet and it would definitely be worth your time to read through a list of all the pets you can use with your Hunter, so you can decide which one would fit in with your style of game play.

Next, there are the Warlock pets, of which we will examine at a later date. For now, you need to know that WoW Warlock pets are demons that can be summoned and controlled by Warlocks who have training in this dark art.

Now for the Hunter’s pets. Pets available to the WoW Hunter class include almost every living beast in the World of Warcraft, which can be tamed by the hunter class. This includes bats, bears, boars, carrion birds, cats, crabs, crocolisks, gorillas, hyenas, owls, raptors, scorpids, spiders, tallstriders, turtles, wind serpents and wolves.

The Four Types of World of Warcraft Hunter’s Pets

WoW Hunter’s Tank Pets – High Health, High Armor, Low Damage
WoW Hunter’s DPS (Fighting) Pets – High Damage, Low Health, Low Armor
WoW Hunter’s Balanced Pets – Well Balanced, Do Not Excel At Anything
WoW Hunter’s Caster Pets – Magical, Avoid Using

Here is a list of some of the more useful Hunter pets available to you along with a brief description of their strengths as a Hunter’s pet:

WoW Hunter Pet Guide – Tanking Pets For The Hunter

WoW Hunters Pet Bear – Out of all of the choices of Hunter’s pets, bears have the best chance of survivability along with the ability to dish out a moderate amount of damage. The second highest armor along with the highest HP (Hit Points) of all the pets makes the bear one nice “Tank” for your Hunter. For the times when you need them for “DPS” (Damage Per Second), the bears can deal out some damage of their own when called upon. The fact that the bear is omnivorous means that you can save money during feeding time.

WoW Hunters Pet Boar – With HP slightly less than the bear and armor that is equal to or slightly higher than a bears, the hard charging boar makes a great choice as a Hunter Pet. Many people who play the World of Warcraft Hunter class choose the boar as their characters pet because of its ability to “Charge”, which works great when grinding and leveling. Like the bear, the boar is also an omnivore.

WoW Hunters Pet Scorpid – In comparison with other tanking Hunter’s pets, Scorpid’s would be considered to have moderate survival skills. If you are the type of Hunter who likes using poison as a means of destroying your enemies then the Scorpid is just the pet for your Hunter. They have a stackable poisonous attack that when used in conjunction with a “Serpent’s Sting” can produce deadly results to multiple enemies. This WoW Hunter Pet Guide recommends the Scorpid as a top notch PvP pet.

WoW Hunters Pet Warpstalker – Similar to the Scorpid in survivability with a “Warp” attack that can be used in much the same way a boar uses its “Charge” to speed up your fighting time.

WoW Hunter Pet Guide – Other Tanking Pets For The Hunter Class

Other Hunters tank type pets you might consider using as a change of pace are crocolisks, crabs and tallstriders. As tanks, you would be better off using the ones previously mentioned because their stats make them better suited for the job. The HP and armor stats for the crocolisks, crabs and tall striders make them borderline tank pets.

WoW Hunter Pet Guide – Fighting Pets (DPS) For The Hunter

Here is a list of Hunter pets who are great for dealing out damage to the enemy. The damage these pets dish out is usually measured by DPS (Damage-Per-Second). The higher your pets DPS, the more damage will be inflicted upon your enemy. When choosing your DPS pet, it is important to find out what skills and abilities it has along with its DPS score. This will tell you what type of damage it will inflict and for how long.

WoW Hunters Pet Cats – Of all of the pets available to the World of Warcraft Hunter class, cats have the ability to attain the highest DPS and inflict the most damage with special abilities like Prowl and Claw.

WoW Hunters Pet Raptors – This Hunters pet is our second choice for delivering some major damage and only its lack of an ability or two stops it from being our favorite lean mean killing machine.

WoW Hunters Pet Ravager – If the sound of a name added to the overall damage dealt by a Hunters pet, then the Ravager would be one tough hombre and at the top of our WoW Hunter Pet Guide. But alas, this Hunters pet is tied for second because its primary ability “Gore” only dishes out double damage sometimes.

WoW Hunters Pet Owl – One of the best Hunters pets is a great weapon to hold in reserve. Imagine your enemy, grinning ear to ear as he is coming in for what he thinks is an easy kill. He’s confident and why not? He’s got so many offensive and defensive “Buffs” on his character, he has buffs on his buffs. Now its your turn to smile as you bring out your secret weapon; your Hunters Pet Owl. You see, one of the Owls special abilities is to “Debuff” an opponent. That’s one awesome ability!

WoW Hunters Pet Wind Serpent – Although this Hunters Pet is somewhat mediocre when it comes to damage melee stats, the Wind Serpents “Lightning Breath” is the most damaging ability in the game. The Wind Serpent would be our best Hunter pet if it had higher damage melee stats.

WoW Hunter Pet Guide – Other Fighting Pets For The WoW Hunter

Here are some well-rounded fighting pets you might consider playing around with to see how they perform: Wolves, Dragonhawks and Serpents.

Cat Pet Training

Why is cat pet training so important? Cats are wondrous, wonderful creatures, and are filled with curiosity. They can be snuggly, affectionate and friendly creatures; often content to nap on a human lap and be stroked until their fur glistens. Some are more standoffish and will only allow the occasional solemn head pat before regally stalking off to stretch and preen in the sunshine. And others are just way out there wild cats, hell bent on running straight up the walls in pursuit of invisible prey, knocking down all who dare get in their pathway. While you cannot change the basic nature of the cat that you have in your home, you can change some of his more obnoxious behavior with cat pet training.

Your first cat pet training tip should be to understand why they do some of the things that they do. Some cat behavior is out of boredom, some out of transitional changes as they grow out of kitten
stages into adulthood, and some can be a symptom of impending or ongoing illnesses. Knowing which is which can help you to avoid potentially dangerous problems before they become life threatening.

Once you have a basic understanding of the why of cat behavior, you can start working on the things that he will need to change with cat pet training. Make sure that you have a list of the poor behavior, and start with the worst offender first. Try to teach new behaviors one at a time, because too many changes will make the cat confused and potentially worst behaved than before. If a cat is doing something that is possibly dangerous that problem should be addressed first with cat pet training, otherwise, it is at your own discretion.

Remember that cat pet training is a matter of patience triumphing over frustration. Shouting at a cat does not work at all, and in fact will bring up a whole new set of issues. Timid cats will become even more fearful, and aggressive cats may take your shouting as an actual threat, so remember that a startled cat will not always react with James Bond coolness- sometimes they bite.

Do not bother with reprimanding your cat, as it is often an ineffective maneuver as well in cat pet training. Cats will learn that getting caught doing the targeted behavior brings about some horrible reactions, so they will simply learn to hide better. This is seen frequently with toileting issues. A cat will stop using his litter box for a variety of reasons, including illness, so that you must find out why. Finding kitty messes after the fact is a pain, but it will not do you any good to drag the offending furball over to the spot, show it to him and then take him to the litter box. Unless he is a brand new cat or you have moved homes recently, he knows full well where that litter box was, he just did not use it.

Find out why and the behavior should be stopped with cat pet training. Eliminate all causes, including sickness, and then work from there. Some cats will never use a litter box, but will allow themselves to be trained to use an alternative. Bizet, the big fluffy cat is too big for the litter box, but he does scratch at the door when he needs to go. He is a psycho the majority of the time, but for this one, he deserves a good kitty!

Pet Portraits, Send 5% Savings to an Animal Rescue Foundation

One of the most unique things you can do to capture the character of your pet, and to show people how much love you have for your furry friend, is to have a pet portrait done by professional artist Nikky Hughes of Los Angeles. Nikky was classically trained at the Mission Renaissance art school, and she focuses on capturing not only the beauty, but the unique character of each animal. She will accept photos through the mail of pets, and then create stunning portraits from those pictures. Pet portraits are ideal because they can be done from a photo (as apposed to getting the pet to “pose” at a studio.)

The great thing about Nikky is that she’s a pet lover herself, and this is reflected in how she runs her business. She discounts every commissioned painting by 5%, and sends those savings as a donation to an animal rescue foundation. This shows how Nikky’s love for all animals is not only reflected in her heartfelt portraits, but also in how she runs her business.

PetCo

Of course, another way to save a fortune off of pet supplies that you wouldn’t normally save if you simply visit a brick-and-mortar store, is to visit that store’s website. To determine the sign of your pet, just compare the month that your pet was born to the dates on the pet horoscope guide. Each range of dates has its own unique sign, identical to human astrological signs.

Where to Find Pet Horoscopes

Pet horoscopes are very unique because a pet’s life is obviously quite different than a human’s, with different concerns, desires, fears, and hopes. Reading your pet’s weekly horoscope can be great fun – just as much fun as reading your own. However, since pet horoscopes are not quite as common as human horoscopes, they can be a little more difficult to find. Below are several websites that list horoscopes for pets every week.

Petroscopes for Pet Horoscopes

Petroscopes for Pet Horoscopes is a great website focused solely on providing both weekly and yearly pet horoscopes. The main page features the yearly horoscope for each zodiac sign.

Here’s an example of a yearly pet horoscope from petroscopes.com:

“Taurus: Taurus is entering a difficult and tiring period. In spite of his natural cautiousness, your Taurus pet may seem so exhausted at times that you feel it necessary to take him to see the local vet. You may also notice your pet exhibiting signs of loneliness – try to give him as much affection as you can.”

This website features some great yearly pet horoscopes, but make note of the fact that the weekly horoscopes are not always updated in a very timely manner.

VPI Pet Insurance

The VPI Pet Insurance Company (yes, there really is such a thing as pet insurance!) provides timely and updated pet horoscopes. The page for 2008 summarizes the year for all pets as follows:

“This year, pets will discover their role as a constant companion is an important one. In 2008, Mother Nature will play a part in pets’ lives throughout the four seasons.”

The horoscope section of this website also offers a “Pet Education Center” that includes sections on “First Aid For Your Pet”, “First Time Pet Owners”, and “Pet Toxins & Poisons”. The website offers a brief horoscope blurb on the main page, and a link for each zodiac sign to a more comprehensive prediction page.

Clicking on the link for the prediction page for any of the signs brings you to a page that describes the personality of that sign (a very fun read, to compare it to your pet’s personality), as well as the effects of astrological events on the life of your pet during each season of the year. The website is laid out very well, organized cleanly and with very fun graphics.

Cat’s Central

Cat’s & Kittens Central provides a fun web page called Winky’s Pet Horoscopes, which is focused primarily on cats. The page touts Winky’s Pet Horoscopes as “The Internet’s #1 Feline Astrologer!” This web page allows you to view your cat’s monthly horoscope. If you don’t know your cat’s exact birthday, Winy says you can simply use the day your pet came into your life.

Each page for the monthly horoscope of each sign features an adorable photo of a cat given the title the zodiac sign “of the Month.” The horoscopes themselves are tailored specifically for cats and very fun to read. For example, Aries for this month reads:

“The moon is set to eclipse Pluto this month, but you needn’t worry yourself about that – after all, Pluto was a badly drawn cartoon dog and you, being of the feline persuasion, are far removed from such things.”

The humor and wit is great. The website, overall, is somewhat amateurish in design, but it isn’t overrun by ads and it’s very easy to navigate. The well-written horoscopes are definitely the star of the show at this site.

Understanding Pet Astrology

pet astrologyWhile the concept of pet astrology may seem odd to many people, there are many people who believe that the date of birth of your pet, related to astrological signs of the planets, the sun, and the stars, have a significant impact on the basic behavior and mood of their pets. There are particular character behaviors that are associated with each zodiac sign for pets. These include all of the following:

Aries: Aries pets are known to be very active and also hypersensitive to the environment around them.

Taurus: Taurus pets seem to have a passive nature normally, but if they are ever caught in a fight where they need to defend themselves or family members, they will not give up a fight.

Gemini: Gemini pets tend to be extremely intelligent, so they are usually very easy to train. But their intelligence also means that they can require a lot of attention, and always need to be in the company of their owners.

Cancer: Cancer pets are extremely sensitive. Because of this, when they get attached to a person, they are loyal to that person for life.

Leo: Leo pets tend to be very independent and almost always end up leading the pack. These pets will be more difficult to train, as they won’t want you to take the role of leader. Be persistent, and the Leo pet will eventually succumb.

Virgo: Virgo pets have a multitude of wonderful characteristics and behaviors that make them perfect human companions.

Libra: Libra pets tend to be extremely easygoing. This means they will make fantastic family pets for families that aren’t very active. Unfortunately this also means that Libra pets are typically somewhat lazy and eventually get overweight without being forced to exercise.

Scorpio: Scorpio pets are extremely possessive of their owners. While this typically makes for an extremely loyal pet, it can also become a problem if the pet believes their owner is being attacked and they aren’t. They can be overprotective at times.

Sagittarius: Sagittarius pets make great pets because they are both fun loving and very intelligent. However, their energy level can be difficult for families that aren’t used to active pets.

Capricorn: Capricorn pets tend to remain very young at heart, and remain very playful even into their old age.

Aquarius: Aquarius pets are extremely intelligent, but for some reason that intelligence can come across as a level of stubbornness that makes them appear ill-tempered and sometimes difficult to handle.

Pisces: Pisces pets are very introverted and extremely gentle. However, their sensitivity means that they can easily sense the moods of their owners. This pet is perfect for people who are naturally calm, but not so good for people who can be very emotional.

Astrology.com

The family section of astrology.com features a great section on pet astrology that lets you select your pets sign from a drop down list in order to get a detailed description of the personality of your pet, how to manage their personality and traits, and how to care for them while taking into account the natural inclinations that are a part of their personality because of their astrological sign.

This website also features fun quizzes, such as “What kind of dog would you be?” or “Are you a cat or dog person?” Additionally, you can find a “pet grid”, which rates several personality traits including “affectionate”, “energetic”, “friendly”, and “loyal” on a scale of 1 to 3 for each zodiac sign. This grid helps you to determine which traits your particular pet is likely to have. There is also a chart that helps you to determine what sign your pet is based on their birth date.

Express Your Pet’s Sign With a Portrait

When you fully educate yourself regarding your pet’s zodiac sign, it may be something that makes you very proud of your pet. You may wish to commemorate your pet and his or her zodiac sign through a painted pet portrait utilizing an astrology theme that integrates the pet’s zodiac sign.

Nikky was classically trained at the Mission Renaissance art school, and she focuses on capturing not only the beauty, but the unique character of each animal. Pet astrology can provide a great deal of insight into the behaviors of your pet, but it also brings great pride in knowing how your pet fits into the cosmological universe. Feature your cat in a beautiful painted portrait that incorporates the zodiac, and you have an astrological masterpiece that will last a lifetime.

External Parasites and the Health of Your Pet

Flea Basics
Fleas thrive when the weather is warm and humid. Depending on your climate, fleas may be a seasonal or year-round problem. Your pet can pick up fleas wherever an infestation exists, often in areas frequented by other cats and dogs. Adult fleas are dark brown, no bigger than a sesame seed, and able to move rapidly over your pet’s skin.pet health

Adult fleas live their entire lives on your pet. Female fleas begin laying eggs within 24 hours of selecting your pet as a host, producing up to 50 eggs each day. These eggs fall from your pet onto the floor or furniture, including your pet’s bed, or onto any other indoor or outdoor area where your pet happens to go. Tiny, worm-like larvae hatch from the eggs and burrow into carpets, under furniture, or into soil before spinning a cocoon. The cocooned flea pupae can lie dormant (inactive) for weeks before emerging as adults that are ready to infest (or reinfest) your pet. The result is a flea life cycle of anywhere from 12 days to 6 months.

Risks and Consequences
You may not know that your pet has fleas until their number increases to the point that your pet is obviously uncomfortable. Signs of flea problems range from mild redness to severe scratching that can lead to open sores and skin infections. One of the first things you may notice on a pet with fleas is “flea dirt” — the black flea droppings left on your pet’s coat.

Fleas bite animals and suck their blood; young or small pets with heavy flea infestations may become anemic. Some pets can develop an allergy to flea saliva that may result in more severe irritation and scratching. Also, pets can become infected with certain types of tapeworms
if they ingest fleas carrying tapeworm eggs. In areas with moderate to severe flea infestations, people may also be bitten by fleas. While fleas are capable of transmitting several other infectious diseases to pets and people, this is rare.

Treatment and Control
Your veterinarian will recommend an appropriate flea control plan for your pet based upon your needs and the severity of the flea infestation.

Fleas spend a lot of their time off of your pet and in the environment. In addition to treating your pet, reduce the flea population in your house by thoroughly cleaning your pet’s sleeping quarters and vacuuming floors and furniture that your pet comes in contact with frequently. Careful and regular vacuuming/cleaning of the pet’s living area helps to remove and kill flea eggs, larvae, and pupae. You may also have to treat your house with insecticides to kill the fleas; consult with your veterinarian about products safe for use around pets and children.

With moderate and severe flea infestations, you may be advised to treat your yard in addition to treating the inside of your home. Your veterinarian can recommend an appropriate course of action and suggest ways to prevent future flea infestations.

Ticks

Tick Basics
Hosting a tick is the price dogs or, less commonly, cats may pay for investigating shrubbery, brush, or wild undergrowth. Ticks have a four-stage life cycle, and immature ticks often feed on small, wild animals found in forests, prairies, and brush. Adult ticks seek larger hosts like dogs and cats who venture into these habitats. Tick exposure may be seasonal, depending on geographic location.

Risks and Consequences
Ticks are most often found around your dog’s neck, in the ears, in the folds between the legs and the body, and between the toes. Cats may have ticks on their neck or face. Tick bites can cause skin irritation and heavy infestations can cause anemia in pets. Ticks are also capable of spreading serious infectious diseases (such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and others) to the pets and the people on which they feed. Disease risk varies by geographic area and tick species.

Treatment and Control
Prompt removal of ticks is very important because it lessens the chance of disease transmission from the tick to your pet. Remove ticks by carefully using tweezers to firmly grip the tick as close to the pet’s skin as possible and gently pulling the tick free without twisting it. After removing the tick, crush it while avoiding contact with tick fluids that can carry disease. Do not attempt to smother the tick with alcohol or petroleum jelly, or apply a hot match to it, as this may cause the tick to regurgitate saliva into the wound, increasing the risk of disease.

Pets at risk for ticks should be treated during the tick season with an appropriate tick preventative. Your veterinarian can recommend a product best suited to your pet’s needs. Owners who take their pets to tick-prone areas during camping, sporting, or hiking trips should examine their pets for ticks immediately upon returning home and remove them from their pets. If your pet picks up ticks in your backyard, trimming bushes and removing brush may reduce your pet’s exposure to tick habitats.

Ear Mites

Mite Basics
Ear mites are common in young cats and dogs, and generally confine themselves to the ears and surrounding area. Mites are tiny and individual mites may be seen only with the aid of a microscope. Your pet can pick up ear mites by close contact with an infested pet or its bedding.

Risks and Consequences
Ear mites can cause intense irritation of the ear canal. Signs of ear mite infestation include excessive head shaking and scratching of the ears. Your pet may scratch to the point that it creates bleeding sores around its ears. A brown or black ear discharge is common with ear mite infections.

Treatment and Control
Treatment of ear mites involves thorough ear cleaning and medication. Your veterinarian can recommend an effective treatment plan.

Sarcoptic Mange Mites

Mite Basics
Microscopic sarcoptic mange mites cause sarcoptic mange, also known as scabies. Sarcoptic mange mites affect dogs of all ages, during any time of the year. Sarcoptic mange mites are highly contagious to other dogs and may be passed by close contact with infested animals, bedding, or grooming tools.

Risks and Consequences
Sarcoptic mange mites burrow through the top layer of the dog’s skin and cause intense itching. Clinical signs include generalized hair loss, a skin rash, and crusting. Skin infections may develop secondary to the intense irritation. People who come in close contact with an affected dog may develop a skin rash and should see their physician.

Treatment and Control
Dogs with sarcoptic mange require medication to kill the mites and additional treatment to soothe the skin and resolve related infections. Cleaning and treatment of the dog’s environment is also necessary.

Demodectic Mange Mites

Mite Basics
Demodectic mange caused by demodectic mange mites is mainly a problem in dogs. Demodectic mange mites are microscopic, cigar-shaped, and not highly contagious. A mother dog, however, may pass the mites to her puppies.

Risks and Consequences
Localized demodectic mange tends to appear in young dogs as patches of scaly skin and redness around the eyes and mouth and, perhaps, the legs and trunk. Unlike other types of mange, demodectic mange may signal an underlying medical condition, and your pet’s overall health should be carefully evaluated. Less commonly, young and old dogs experience a generalized form of demodectic mange and can exhibit widespread patches of redness, hair loss, and scaly, thickened skin.

Treatment and Control
Your veterinarian will discuss treatment options with you. Treatment of dogs with localized demodectic mange generally results in favorable outcomes. Generalized demodectic mange (demodecosis), however, may be difficult to treat, and treatment may only control the condition, rather than cure it.

Important Points

* Look for fleas, ticks, and coat abnormalities any time you groom your dog or cat or when you return home from areas that are likely to have higher numbers of these parasites.

* See your veterinarian if your pet excessively scratches, chews, or licks its haircoat, or persistently shakes its head. These clinical signs may indicate the presence of external parasites or other conditions requiring medical care.

* Prompt treatment of parasites lessens your pet’s discomfort, decreases the chances of disease transmission from parasite to pet, and may reduce the degree of home infestation.

* Discuss the health of all family pets with your veterinarian when one pet becomes infested. Some parasites cycle among pets, making control of infestations difficult unless other pets are considered. Consult your veterinarian before beginning treatment.

* Tell your veterinarian if you have attempted any parasite remedies, as this may impact your veterinarian’s recommendation.

* Be especially careful when applying insecticides to cats, as cats are particularly sensitive to these products. Never use a product that is not approved for cats, as the results could be lethal.

* Follow label directions carefully.

* Leave treatment to the experts. Your veterinarian offers technical expertise and can assist you in identifying products that are most likely to effectively and safely control your pet’s parasite problem.
